The most commonly used types of riot control equipment are riot shields, riot spray (tear gas sprayers), and rubber batons. These three types of equipment are standard issue for law enforcement and security personnel worldwide due to their practicality, safety, and versatility.
Based on frontline duty needs and equipment configuration analysis, the most frequently used equipment is primarily concentrated on non-lethal tools that are easy to carry, allow for rapid response, and effectively control the situation:
Rio Shields: As core equipment for close-quarters protection, riot shields are almost indispensable in handling mass incidents. Made of high-strength polycarbonate or composite metals, they effectively resist attacks from stones, batons, and even low-speed projectiles. Their transparent design ensures visibility and they are often used in conjunction with riot forks to form the first line of defense.
Rio Spray/Tear Gas Sprayers: Due to their portability and efficient control capabilities, they are widely used for individual subjugation or rapid dispersal. The sprayed capsaicin or CS gas can rapidly cause burning pain, tearing, and difficulty breathing in the target's eyes within a distance of 3-4 meters, achieving non-contact control. Some newer sprays also contain UV-marking components, facilitating post-incident tracking of suspects.
Rubber batons (retractable batons) are frequently used as basic striking and deterrent tools due to their lightweight and ease of operation. They can be used for defensive blocking or to deliver moderate blows to stop violent behavior, and are standard equipment for frontline security personnel during daily patrols.
