The equipment law enforcement officers must carry when performing riot control duties depends on the nature of the mission and the level of risk. However, core equipment typically includes riot shields, riot helmets, riot suits, restraint devices (such as steel forks), non-lethal control tools (such as tear gas spray), and body cameras.
This equipment constitutes a basic protection and control system, ensuring the safety of law enforcement officers themselves while effectively stopping violence according to law.
Basic Protective Equipment
Riot Helmet: Protects the head from attacks such as clubs and stones. It is impact-resistant and penetration-resistant, with a high light transmittance visor providing a wide field of vision and comfortable wear.
Riot Suit (including stab-proof vest): Available in standard and heavy-duty versions, made of high-strength fiber materials, it can withstand knife slashes and blunt force impacts. Some models are fireproof and waterproof.
Riot Shield: Made of transparent PC or alloy material, it effectively blocks projectiles and close-range attacks. Rectangular shields offer a large protective area and are commonly used by frontline personnel to establish defensive formations.
Control and Disposal Equipment
Restraint Forks (Waist/Leg Forks)
Telescopic design (1.2–2 meters), used for remote control of a suspect's limbs, reducing the risk of direct physical contact. Effective when used in conjunction with a shield.
Tear Gas Spray
Sprays a liquid or aerosol containing irritating chemicals, causing temporary incapacitation of the target. Suitable for close-range intervention to stop attacks without causing permanent damage
Batons and High-Intensity Flashlights
Rubber batons are used for dispersing non-lethal blows; high-intensity flashlights combine illumination, warning, and self-defense functions, with the strong light capable of temporarily blinding and disorienting the opponent.
Auxiliary and Compliance Equipment
Law Enforcement Recorders
According to the "Regulations on Internal Affairs of the People's Police of Public Security Organs," law enforcement officers must carry and use them in accordance with regulations during law enforcement duties to ensure traceability of the law enforcement process.
Communication equipment and police ropes: Walkie-talkies support team coordination, while police ropes are used to temporarily restrain suspects and are one type of restraint police equipment.
