How Intelligent Will Future Riot Control Equipment Be?

The intelligence level of future riot control equipment has entered a closed-loop stage of "autonomous perception - collaborative decision-making - precise execution." It is no longer a simple mechanical extension, but a "digital combatant" with environmental recognition, data interaction, and tactical coordination capabilities.

Driven by AI, 5G, and multi-sensor fusion technologies, modern riot control equipment is evolving from a "human-controlled tool" to an "intelligent partner." Its intelligence is reflected in the following four aspects:

Intelligent Perception: Real-time "Clear View" of the Battlefield Situation Equipment is equipped with multi-modal sensors such as thermal imaging, gas detection, and voiceprint recognition to achieve all-time environmental monitoring. For example, the Dräger FPS®7000 full-face mask integrates an in-visibility display (IMD), which can project thermal images in real time, accurately identifying targets even in dense smoke or darkness. Similar technologies are being applied to riot helmet systems to enhance combat perception in complex environments.

Autonomous Judgment: "Accurate" Threat Identification With the help of AI algorithms, equipment can automatically analyze video streams, sound signals, and behavioral patterns to distinguish between civilians and attackers and identify potential explosives. For example, a certain type of reconnaissance robot, using a deep learning model, can automatically mark suspicious personnel and equipment from drone footage. The "Police Officer Ball" robot deployed by the Beijing police can also autonomously patrol and identify abnormal behavior through an AI vision system.

Collaborative Operations: Manned and Unmanned Forces "Make the Difference" Intelligent equipment can now form integrated "reconnaissance-strike-control" combat units with infantry squads. For example, lightweight drones can provide riot police with high-altitude visibility and real-time feedback on crowd movements; robot dogs carrying non-lethal weapons can approach and disperse enemy forces, reducing the risk of personnel exposure. Wei Dongxu pointed out that the deep integration of manned and unmanned forces has become the standard combat mode for modern urban counter-terrorism.

Individual Soldier Countermeasures: Low-Altitude Threats "Can Be Defended" In response to the increasingly rampant harassment by consumer-grade drones, my country has deployed a new type of individual combat drone countermeasure equipment, weighing only 3.5 kg. It can quickly interfere with the 1.5GHz/2.4GHz/5.8GHz frequency bands, cutting off drone signals within one second, forcing them to return or crash, with an interception success rate of up to 98%. The system has intelligent identification capabilities, enabling it to distinguish between friendly and enemy aircraft and avoid accidental damage to civilian equipment.
